Lodging and Food
On-campus lodging and meals are available through multiple venues providing both variety and choice. Participants can choose rooms at The Inn at Ole Miss (immediately adjacent to the E.F. Yerby Conference Center). The Inn at Ole Miss has single or double accommodations for $70. If you prefer dormitory lodging, accommodations are single or double with community bathrooms. Dormitory lodging will be offered at $20.
Meals on campus range from multi-menu opportunities (including vegetarian options) in a full-service cafeteria dining hall in the University’s Johnson Commons to coffee shop items (in both the J.D. Williams Library and the student center) or convenience store options (in the student center), all located in easy walking distance on campus. All campus locations utilized in this workshop are wheelchair-accessible.
A wide array of off-campus hotels and inns are also available. Also within easy walking and/or shuttle distance from campus are fast-food restaurants as well as low, moderate, and high-end establishments, serving everything from specialty Southern foods to Italian, Mexican, and nouvelle cuisines. Oxford is well-known throughout the South as a food-lover’s paradise, offering many more options than towns similar in size. Additionally, Oxford is renown for its historical and cultural attractions, from the Town Square to Rowan Oak, home to William Faulkner from 1930 until his death in 1962.
Our battlefield visits will involve an overnight stay at Crow’s Neck Environmental Center, which offers dormitory-style lodge amenities, shared bathrooms, and full-service meal options. The staff at the Center will be able to address dietary concerns as needed.
The only additional gear needed by participants will be comfortable walking shoes for the battlefield walks, as well as the evening walk and campfire at Crow’s Neck.
