There is a new educational option in the area for Northeast Mississippi Community College students and Northeast Mississippi residents who are interested in pursuing the college degree that is needed to serve as a professional educator in an elementary school. The University of Mississippi has teamed with Northeast Community College in Booneville to offer the junior and senior–level courses needed to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Students who have taken the required freshmen and sophomore–level courses at Northeast or another institution may now transfer to the UM–Booneville site to complete their bachelor’s degree.
“This program will be a great fit for area teacher’s assistants or those with associate’s degrees who want to go on to complete a bachelor’s degree but need to stay close to home to take their courses,” UM–Booneville Admissions Counselor Michael Holloway stated. “Family and community commitments as well as the distance to area universities can make it difficult for those who live in this region to continue on in their education. It is our hope that by bringing University of Mississippi education degree courses to Booneville, area residents who have a heart for teaching children will now have the opportunity to accomplish their educational goals.”
