New workforce education incentive opportunity available for hundreds of Corinth area workers

UM-Booneville and The Alliance of Corinth collaborate to offer employees of member organizations tuition assistance

BOONEVILLE, Miss.— The University of Mississippi Booneville regional campus (UM-Booneville) and The Alliance of Corinth have formed a collaborative partnership to offer employees of The Alliance membership organizations a new tuition discount incentive.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the two organizations met at The Alliance office in Corinth to officially sign the partnership into effect.

“By collaborating with The Alliance, UM-Booneville will be able to offer financial assistance that makes a degree more affordable and accessible,” said Derek Markley, UM-Booneville executive director.

“Our two organizations are committed to helping residents of this region achieve their educational and career-related goals.”

The Alliance has over 400 membership organizations, each with numerous employees. Many of these organizations are small businesses that may not be able to offer the same tuition benefits that large corporations are able to offer employees. This tuition discount will now allow small businesses to provide similar benefits.

"The Alliance is excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our member businesses and their employees,” Clayton Stanley, The Alliance President & CEO said.

“Today’s economy requires a highly skilled workforce and, in most fields, continuous learning is required to advance. We are glad to have bachelor’s degree completion program available so close to home at UM-Booneville, and are proud to be able to make it even more affordable.

The incentive will provide $500 per semester, renewable for up to four semesters to eligible students enrolled in six or more credit hours. Students who are non-residents of the state of Mississippi may receive a scholarship to cover the cost of the UM out-of-state fee. Recipients will have up to four years to complete the program in any field of study they choose to pursue.

“This incentive builds on part of our mission as a University; reaching the non-traditional student, where they are,” said Rick Gregory, assistant provost for regional education.

“We want to give students as many resources and opportunities as possible to achieve their goals.”
