Grand Canyon Expedition: March 14-21, 2009
Grand Canyon Expedition is an educational travel program focusing on the natural history of the Grand Canyon. Biologist Stephen Threlkeld will lead the group on a journey around the rim and into the canyon, exploring both well-known and more remote areas of the region. Academic Travelers will enjoy hiking, camping, photography, as well as exploring the area’s natural history, geology, and culture.
Highlights for the Academic Travelers:
- Tour Hoover Dam
- Visit the Hualapai Indian Reservation
- Enjoy the view from the Grand Canyon Skywalk
- Explore the South Rim
- Visit the Grand Canyon Museum and Archives
- Take a sunrise walk at Mather Point
- Visit the Desert View Watchtower
- Explore Lees Ferry and Marble Canyon
- Camp for two nights at Toroweap
The Academic Traveler Grand Canyon Expedition program cost is $1675 per person (based on double occupancy). The registration deadline is Friday, February 13th, but space is limited, so register early to secure a space. Payroll deduction is available for University of Mississippi faculty and staff. Painlessly pay for your trip over up to 12 pay periods.
Included in the program cost:
- Pre-departure educational material
- Pre-departure lectures
- All hotel accommodations and some meals
- Camping fees for two-nights
- Ground transportation in the Grand Canyon area
- Tours and admission fees
Excluded from the program cost:
- Transportation to and from the departure city airport
- Round-trip airfare to Las Vegas
- Travel insurance
