Florence: A Culinary Adventure is an educational travel program dedicated to the cuisine of Tuscany. Participants will attend olive oil and wine tastings, guided tours of wineries, and visit salumi, cheese, pasta and gelato laboratories. Travelers will also have free time in Florence to take in the Renaissance art and architecture of the city. To enhance your experience, participants can take advantage of pre-departure lectures on the art, architecture, and cuisine of Florence. Join chef and artist Cory Lewis on this incredible exploration of the culinary traditions of Italy.
Highlights for the Academic Travelers:
- Pre-departure and on-site culinary instruction
- Olive oil tasting on Lanciola farm
- Wine tastings and tours at Casaloste and Cennatoio wineries
- Guided walk in the Antinori vineyards
- Tour of Impruneta, home of Tuscan terracotta and ceramics
- Guided visits to salumi, pasta and cheese laboratories
- Cooking classes and guided tastings with chef Barbara Bartolotta
- “Dolce Day” featuring a rose syrup tasting, pastry-making demonstration and chocolate laboratory visit
- A farewell dinner at one of Italy’s most exceptional restaurants
The Academic Traveler Florence: A Culinary Adventure program cost is $2,295 per person (double occupancy).
The registration deadlie is Friday. January 16th, but enrollment is limited, so register early to secure a space. Payroll deduction is available for University of Mississippi faculty and staff.
Accommodations are provided at the following locations:
Villa Zobi
Located in the Chianti wine region, Villa Zobi is a large, restored Tuscan country house surrounded by extensive gardens with its own private pool and a veranda for outside dining.
Hotel Brunelleschi Firenze
Located in the historical downtown area of Florence, Hotel Brunelleschi is a short walk from the Uffizi Gallery, the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence’s famous shopping district, and the Piazza del Duomo, home to one of the world’s most famous cathedrals. Housed in a historic Byzantine structure, Hotel Brunelleschi has been renovated and modernized to comfortably accommodate guests. In addition to direct telephone lines, satellite TV and wireless internet access, guests can also step back into the past by viewing artifacts uncovered during the renovation in the hotel’s on-site museum. Concierge service is available to help you plan individual activities.
