Costa Rica is an emerald gem set in the heart of Central America. It is world renowned for its beautiful tropical forests, amazing biological diversity, and dedication to environmental conservation. Explore the diverse terrain of this tropical paradise on this 7-day adventure ideally suited for nature lovers. Explore Costa Rica’s lush rainforests, and identify the many species of flora and fauna that call this amazing habitat home. Venture to Arenal Volcano, famous for being an active volcano with daily rumbles, and hike the surrounding national park. Led by University of Mississippi Associate Professor Dr. Debby Chessin, this program is sure to be the adventure of a lifetime.

- Explore Arenal Volcano National Park and learn about Costa Rica’s geology and volcanic history
- Enjoy an amazing view from the sky tram and then an afternoon visit to Danaus Eco-Center
- Soak in the thermal springs of Termales del Bosque
- Discover the importance of biodiversity with a visit to the National Biodiversity Institute’s InBio Parque
- Explore the majestic rainforests of Selva Verde Lodge’s Rainforest Reserve
- Enjoy a morning guided bird walk on the lodge grounds which are rich in bird species
- Meet new friends at the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center
- Have breakfast at a pineapple plantation and learn about the production of this delicious fruit, including its economical and biological impacts in the region
- Float along the Rio Sarapiqui in search of wildlife and enjoy white water rafting
The Academic Traveler Discover Costa Rica program cost is $1795 per person (based on double occupancy). The registration deadline is Wednesday, August 22, but space is limited, so register early to secure a space. Payroll deduction is available for University of Mississippi faculty and staff.
