SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Many of the academic competitions offered by the Office of Pre-College Programs offer scholarship opportunities to one of three summer programs – JumpStart, Summer Academy, and Summer College. All scholarships are sponsored by the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education at the University of Mississippi.

For Graduating Seniors

First, second and third place winners in each of these competitions will be awarded a tuition scholarship to be used in one of two summer terms for the JumpStart program, which is run through the Office of Pre-College Programs at the University of Mississippi and sponsored by the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education. The tuition scholarships are as follows:

These tuition scholarships may only be used in the summer following a competition. Graduating Seniors may only use these tuition scholarships for any JumpStart summer term’s tuition charges, not including non-resident fees. These tuition scholarships cannot be used for the fall or spring semesters’ charges. Receiving a scholarship does not guarantee admission to the university. The student must meet all admission requirements. A competitor may not win more than 6 credit hours of tuition scholarships per overall event, not individual events. Tuition scholarships may not be redeemed for cash value. The Office of Pre-College Programs and the Division of Outreach at the University of Mississippi reserve the right to change, update or rescind any scholarship offer for any reason.

As of Summer 2015, a 3-credit hour tuition scholarship is worth $874.50. All federal, state and institutional financial aid rules will apply.

For Rising Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Freshmen, and 8th Graders

First, second and third place winners in each of these competitions will be awarded a scholarship for the Summer Academy (SA) (Jr. High Students) or for the Summer College for High School Students (SCHS) (Sr. High Students), which is run through the Office of Pre-College Programs at the University of Mississippi and sponsored by the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education. The scholarships are as follows:

These tuition scholarships may only be used in the summer following a competition. Scholarships may only be applied toward tuition fees for Summer Academy or Summer College. Tuition scholarships may not be used to pay for program and housing fees. Receiving a scholarship does not guarantee admission to a particular program. The student must meet all admission requirements and must participate in the residential option of the program, if options are available for said program. A competitor may not win more than the top (1st place) tuition scholarship offer per overall event, not individual events. Tuition scholarships may not be redeemed for cash value. The Office of Pre-College Programs and the Division of Outreach at the University of Mississippi reserve the right to change, update or rescind any scholarship offer for any reason. All federal, state and institutional financial aid rules will apply.

Redeeming a Scholarship

All scholarships must be redeemed in the summer following a competition for one of the above programs. A scholarship certificate will be awarded at the competition. To redeem a scholarship, students must send in a copy of the certificate after being officially accepted into a summer program at the University of Mississippi.

Scholarships to any one session may not be stacked with another scholarship in the same session. For example, if a student receives a competition scholarship for half-tuition and another scholarship (i.e. competition, etc.) to Summer Academy, only one scholarship may be used per session. Therefore, one award could be applied to the first session and the other to second session.
