Registration check-in for the Chess Tournament will begin at 7:45 a.m. and will end at 8:25 a.m. in the lobby of the E. F. Yerby Center. All players must check-in at the registration table before competing. Round one will begin at 8:30 a.m.; if a player does not arrive in time for its 8:30 a.m. match, the match will be forfeited.

The format for the tournament is Game:30, which means that each player is allowed 30 minutes to complete their moves for the match. The matches for the first round will be selected randomly. This will be a Swiss Movement, so for rounds two through five, players will play others closer to their skill level, based on their record in this tournament. After round five, the player with the most number of wins is the champion. There will also be a side blitz chess event during the tournament, Game:5 single elimination, that the student can enter in addition to the main tournament. Prizes will be given to the winner(s). Awards will be given for 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place.

The Food Court in the Student Union will be open for lunch, but it will not be open for breakfast. This option is probably best for lunch because you will not have to leave campus. There are a variety of choices for lunch (Home Zone, Bene Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Salad Garden, Grill Works, Java City, Montague's Deli, Bene Pasta, Torilla's, and Sushi Bar). The Ole Miss Bookstore in the Union will also be open if some of you would like to browse or shop after lunch.

Competition Rules

Above all, this tournament thrives on competition that is both courteous and respectful of others. Therefore, appropriate conduct is required for all individuals involved. ANY inappropriate conduct, including yelling, show of temper, or interruptive/distracting behavior (as deemed by the tournament director) is grounds for forfeiture of a match or expulsion from the tournament.

Driving Directions

The best way to come to the Oxford campus of the University of Mississippi from any direction is to come to Oxford on either Highway 6 (which is an east/west road) or Highway 7 (which is a north/south road), then take Highway 6 to the Old Taylor Road exit just south of the campus.

Exit Highway 6 at Old Taylor Road. Turn north and go approximately ¾ mile until Old Taylor Road dead ends at University Avenue. The Gertrude Ford Center for the Performing Arts will be directly in front of you. Turn left (west) on University Avenue, immediately cross a bridge, and then take a right at the four-way stop. The building on your right is the Yerby Center and you may park in the back (the first little road after turning off of University Avenue).
