What is Maymester?
Maymester is a two-week academic term that takes place in
mid May. It is designed to offer Ole Miss students the
opportunity to earn up to three hours of academic credit
toward the completion of their degrees between the spring
semester and summer
sessions.
What are the dates of Maymester?
Maymester will begin Monday, May 15, 2006. The last day of
classes will also be the day of the final exam, Saturday,
May 27. Summer sessions will begin the following Tuesday,
May 30.
Why should I take a Maymester class?
You will have the opportunity to take a course needed to
complete your degree or to retake a course if necessary. If
you know that you will be taking some particularly demanding
courses during the fall, Maymester could be the solution to
a lighter course load that term or provide the opportunity
to concentrate on only one subject. You can get ahead or
catch up by taking a course during Maymester.
What kind of courses can I take?
On this web site you will find the academic calendar for
Maymester 2006, as well as a list of all of the courses that
were offered during Maymester 2005. These courses are
representative of the types of courses generally offered
during the Maymester intersession. Courses are listed by
school and department. Because details about a particular
course may change, you can find the most current information
on courses by consulting the Course Schedule menu on the
main Ole Miss page once classes are posted. As you will
discover in looking over the class schedule, a large number
of courses will be offered, one of which may be just right
for you. Classes for Maymester 2006 are being finalized
now.
How do Maymester classes work?
The normal, Oxford campus Maymester course will meet for
approximately three hours and thirty minutes each day for
ten days (Monday through Friday) during the last two weeks
of May, with final exams scheduled for Saturday, May 27.
How much do Maymester classes cost?
Tuition is the same as that of any other comparable course
taken during the fall or spring.
| Mississippi Residents |
| Undergraduate, 3 credit hour course | $540.00 |
| Graduate, 3 credit hour course | $720.00 |
| Non-Residents |
| Undergraduate, 3 credit hour course | $783.00 |
| Graduate, 3 credit hour course | $1,044.00 |
Do I have to pay anything extra to stay in campus housing?
Yes. For a double occupancy dorm room during the Maymester, your charge will be $200. If you have additional questions about housing, please contact that office directly.
How do I sign up for a Maymester class?
Currently enrolled students may register for classes
beginning with the Priority Registration period that starts
March 22.
What if I need to withdraw from my course?
This is easy to do, but you cannot do it yourself over the
web. If you wish to drop your Maymester schedule down to
zero hours, you will have to ask the registrar's office to
do this for you. The registrar's office will need a signed
note from you (delivered in person, by mail or by fax) in
which you provide your name, Social Security or student ID
number, and the course you wish to drop. The registrar will
then withdraw you from the course. The telephone number for
the registrar's office is 915-7792, and the fax number is
915-7793.
What if I have more questions?
The Maymester program is administered by the Office of
Summer School within the Division of Outreach and Continuing
Education. Please feel free to contact us if you have any
