PAUL T. (TOM) BURNHAM Tom Burnham joined Ole Miss as Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in 2004. Dr. Burnham holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in School Principal from Mississippi College, a specialists degree in Educational Leadership and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Delta State University.
Dr. Burnham has served as Superintendent of Henderson County Public Schools (North Carolina), as Mississippi State Superintendent of Education, as Superintendent of Biloxi Public Schools, Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Education Initiative Consortium, and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Burnham is a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the Association for Curriculum Development and Supervision, and a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
During his tenure at The University of Mississippi, Dr. Burnham has personally secured grants in excess of $4.5 million and has led the School through its NCATE continuing accreditation process.
SALLY HAMPTON currently serves as a Senior Fellow in the National College Faculty of America’s Choice, Inc. Prior to joining the staff at the National Center on Education and the Economy, Sally was a senior scholar with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In her other roles she has served as the Director for Language Arts, Deputy Director for Research and Development for the National Center on Education and the Economy. She has also served as the Coordinator of Standards and Applied Learning with the Fort Worth Independent School District.

DOUG McQUEEN is an accomplished professional in organization and leadership development. He has worked with clients in the United States, Canada and Europe. At various times in his career he has served as a school administrator, a utility company executive, a university professor, and a leadership consultant. These varied roles have provided him unique insight into organization and leadership issues.

JAMES WILLIAMS is a Senior Associate/ Math Specialist for America’s Choice Inc, a subsidiary of the National Center on Education and the Economy and in partnership with The University of Mississippi Institute for Education and Workforce Development. Prior to this position Mr. Williams worked in the field of education in various capacities. He was a teacher and high school administrator at Berkeley High School in Berkeley CA. He was co-director of the Diversity Project, a research initiative between Berkeley High School and the University of California at Berkeley. He has also served as an education consultant to various schools, districts and the Mississippi Department of Education.
LEAH HANNAH is a Senior Associate/Literacy Specialist for America’s Choice Inc, a subsidiary of the National Center on Education and the Economy and in partnership with The University of Mississippi Institute for Education and Workforce Development. Prior to this position, Mrs. Hannah worked in the field of education in various capacities. She was a teacher in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Mrs. Hannah was also an elementary school principal in Madison County, MS. During her career, she has led trainings for various schools and school districts. Mrs. Hannah also led trainings for the State Department of Education in Texas and the State Department of Education in Mississippi.
CHUCK POER, currently serving as vice president of academic services for Bailey Education Group, has over 26 years of experience as a classroom teacher, coach, and principal K-12. Most recently, Mr. Poer served as principal of New Albany Elementary School where he guided his school from an achievement level “3” to an achievement level “5” over a two year period, and he was named Mississippi Administrator of the Year [2007] by the Mississippi Department of Education.
Mr. Poer has been recognized throughout the state for his leadership skills and his extensive knowledge of progress monitoring, student assessment, and data driven decision making.
VALERIE TROIANI is Bailey Education GroupÆs Director of Operations. One of her primary responsibilities is developing customized training and professional development to meet school/districts’ identified needs. From December 2005 to December 2007, Ms. Troiani was Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Learning for the Program of Research and Evaluation for Public Schools (PREPS) where she also was responsible for developing training modules, providing customized professional development for member districts, and developing proposals.
Ms. Troiani worked for the Mississippi Department of Education for seventeen years, primarily in the areas of accountability and assessment. From 2002 to 2005, she served as Assistant Director of the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Student Assessment (OSA). As Assistant Director of the OSA, Ms. Troiani worked closely with OSA staff, testing company representatives, and school district personnel in the development and implementation of all components of the Mississippi Statewide Assessment System. As Assistant Director of the OSA, she was responsible for the everyday management of the OSA office and for supervising the staff who manage the contracts for both the Grade Level Testing Program (GLTP) and the Subject Area Testing Program (SATP). The staff members responsible for test security and the assessment of students with disabilities also reported to Ms. Troiani. As Assistant Director of the OSA, Ms. Troiani was responsible for the bi-annual training of Mississippi District Test Coordinators and therefore planned the agendas, reviewed and approved the training materials, and supervised the staff who presented at these District Test Coordinator training sessions.
Ms. Troiani has successfully trained school district personnel in the following areas: test development, test administration, test security, standard setting, test score interpretation, data analysis, assessment of students with disabilities, accountability (Achievement, Growth, and AYP Models), differentiated instruction, Lexiles, writing effective test items, and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Model.
