Introduction to Computers

YOGA

During the last few years, yoga has become widespread throughout America. Yoga stretches and strengthens the body, reduces stress, and calms the mind: it can also offer experiences of deep connectedness and bliss. A series of hour-long classes will provide instruction in asanas (yoga postures), pranayama (breathing exercise), and relaxation. This class is suitable for beginners as well as those at an intermediate level.

CROCHETING

This class will take you beyond the basics of crocheting and launch you into endless projects. Supplies are provided.

Introduction to Microsoft office

Register.

Learn how to use all functionalities of the Ms Office suite to your advantage. This class will increase your skill set whether typing a document, creating a spreadsheet, creating a slow show, or by using Outlook as a planner. Maximum 18.

BEGINNING CHRISTMAS STAINED GLASS WORKSHOP

Students will learn the traditional methods of cutting and putting together a Christmas Stained Glass window. The students will have 3 patterns to choose from. Each student will take home a finished 8 ½ x 11 Christmas piece. All of the tools will be supplied.

Bob Elser is a stained glass artisan who lives in North Alabama. He has instructed stained glass courses for the past 20 years of his 30-year career as a stained glass artisan.

All You Need to Become an Amateur Radio Operator (Technician License)

What is Ham Radio?
A housewife in North Carolina makes friends over the radio with another ham in Lithuania. An Ohio teenager uses his computer to upload a digital chess move to an orbiting space satellite, where it's retrieved by a fellow chess enthusiast in Japan. An aircraft engineer in Florida participating in a "DX contest" swaps his call sign and talks to hams in 100 different countries during a single weekend. In California, volunteers save lives as part of their involvement in an emergency response. And from his room in Chicago, a ham's pocket-sized hand-held radio allows him to talk to friends in the Carolinas. This unique mix of fun, public service and convenience is the distinguishing characteristic of Amateur Radio. Although hams get involved for many reasons, they all have in common a basic knowledge of radio technology and operating principles, and pass an examination for the FCC license to operate on radio frequencies known as the "Amateur Bands." These bands are radio frequencies reserved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by hams at intervals from just above the AM broadcast band all the way up into extremely high microwave frequencies.

Who's the Typical Ham?
Amateur Radio operators come from all walks of life -- movie stars, missionaries, doctors, students, politicians, truck drivers and just plain folks. They are all ages, sexes, income levels and nationalities. They say Hello to the world in many languages and many ways. But whether they prefer Morse code on an old brass telegraph key, voice communication on a hand-held radio, or computerized messages transmitted via satellite, they all have an interest in what's happening in the world, and they use radio to reach out.

Why Do You Need a License?
Although the main purpose of Amateur Radio is fun, it is called the "Amateur Radio Service" because it also has a serious face. The FCC created this "Service" to fill the need for a pool of experts who could provide backup during emergencies. In addition, the FCC acknowledged the ability of the hobby to advance the communication and technical skills of radio, and to enhance international goodwill. This philosophy has paid off. Countless lives have been saved where skilled hobbyists act as emergency communicators to render aid, whether it's during an earthquake in Italy or a hurricane in the U.S.

Beginning Spanish

Beginning Spanish is a seven week course that will teach you the basics of the Spanish language. Topics covered in this course include conversation, basic vocabulary, and grammar usage.

FLORAL DESIGN

A basic floral design class that does not require any prior experience. This is a hands-on class that allows participants to experiment and practice their flower-arranging techniques under the direction of a floral-design expert. Focus will be on spring arrangements. Two sessions.

Medical Spanish

Introduction to Medical Spanish is a seven week course that will teach you the basics of communication with Hispanic patients. Topics covered include basic medical vocabulary, patient assessment and evaluation, and communicating diagnosis and treatment.

The instructor will cover camera techniques, composition, and lighting tips that will help you make the most of photo opportunities whether you are just starting out or have been making photos for years. Bring your enthusiasm, creative spirit and your camera.

INSTANT PIANO FOR HOPELESSLY BUSY PEOPLE

This three-hour class teaches people to play the piano by using chords, a shortcut way to learn how to play. By the end of the night, those taking the class will know how to play several popular songs on the piano.

Instructor: David Haynes was a music teacher for years when he first learned of this revolutionary program and being intrigued by it, tried it out, and fell in love with the teaching method. He has been teaching it at over 130 different colleges for the last few years.
